Peak District

 

Hardhurst Farm (Nr Hope)

 

Open all year.

Crags: Short drive to all of the eastern edges, plus Horseshoe Quarry, Stoney Middleton, Millers Dale etc.

Pub:    The Travellers Rest (100 mtrs) open late Friday and Saturday nights.

Café:   on site, excellent value breakfasts (closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays)

 

Excellent large site, no need to book (site full sign always up, just ignore and find somewhere to pitch). Two large almost flat fields, main field caravans and tents (pitch along left hand side), second field large, tents only pitch where you like. Second field not always open in winter. Note: railway runs along top edge of fields – pitch away from this if you don’t want to be woken up early.

 

North Lees (nr Hathersage)

 

Open all year.

Crags: Walking distance of Stanage, short drive to rest of the eastern edges, plus Horseshoe Quarry, Stoney Middleton, Millers Dale etc.

Pub:    Little John Inn (Hathersage) – 3 miles !

Café:   Hathersage bakery, Outside Café – all in Hathersage.

 

Sloping site, can be very wet. Advisable to book normally. Only recommended if you don’t have transport (although the walk from Hathersage is uphill and hard work with camping and climbing gear on your back), otherwise your probably better off camping somewhere else and driving to the crag.

 

Bradwell

 

Open all year.

Crags: Short drive to all of the eastern edges, plus Horseshoe Quarry, Stoney Middleton, Millers Dale etc.

Pub:    ???? next to campsite.

Café:   Hardhurst Farm (1 mile), excellent value breakfasts (closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays)

 

Immaculate site, mainly flat pitches. Quite expensive and not that big. Advance booking advised.

 

 

 

Edale

 

Open all year.

Crags: Kinder, longer drive to all of the eastern edges etc.

Pub:    ???? next to campsite.

Café:   Not known.

 

Large field, slightly sloping. Popular with D.o.E groups and people starting the Pennine Way and can get very busy. Advance booking advised.

 

 

Rowter Farm (above Winnats Pass)

 

Open ??.

Crags: Winnats Pass ~ 1 mile (climbing not permitted), longer drive to all of the eastern edges etc.

Pub:    Castleton ~ 2 miles.

Café:   Castleton.

 

Large field on top of hill. Not really near anything. Camp here if you really can’t get in anywhere else! Advance booking probably not required.

 

 

Redhurst Farm (Wetton)

 

Open ??.

Crags: Beeston Tor ~ 1 mile, Thors Cave, Dovedale short drive away as well as Matlock etc.

Pub:    400 yards (The Olde Royal Oak).

Café:   Not known.

 

Large, flat field sometimes used by groups (scouts, schools etc), probably no need to book. Walking distance of Thors Cave and pub.

 

 

The Olde Royal Oak (Wetton)

 

Open ??.

Crags: Beeston Tor ~ 1 mile, Thors Cave, Dovedale short drive away as well as Matlock etc.

Pub:    At campsite

Café:   Not known.

 

Small field immediately behind pub, only 12 tents. Advance booking essential. Be on your best behaviour!

 

 

 

Square and Compass - Darley Dale (Matlock)

Open all year.

Crags: Matlock crags (High Tor, Wildcat, Willersley) short drive away.

Pub:    Upper Hulme ~ ˝ mile.

Café:   Not known, probably one in Darley Dale.

 

Medium sized field across road from pub, use pub toilets and showers (door at far right hand end of pub left open all hours). Advance booking recommended.

 

 

Roaches

 

Open all year.

Crags: Roaches short walk away.

Pub:    The Rock Inn in Upper Hulme ~ ˝ mile.

Café:   Almost opposite campsite, opening times seasonal.

 

Medium sized field outside of village on road to Roaches (RHS, hard to spot), toilets at farm 400 mtrs back down road towards Upper Hulme. Advance booking probably not required.

 

 

Yorkshire

 

Malham

 

Open ??.

Crags: Malham Cove and Goredale Scar within walking distance, short drive to other Yorkshire crags.

Pub:    In village, choice of two.

Café:   Not known.

 

Smallish, flat field on the edge of Malham village on the road to the Cove. Nice views of Malham Cove to inspire (or scare!) you. Advance booking recommended.
